Garlic: peel it easily without smashing

Smashing garlic with a knife may be fun to watch on food television shows, and may work if you're going to slice, dice, or squash the garlic, but there's an easier way. Soak the cloves in cold water for a few minutes. The peel slips off easily, leaving the whole clove intact.
