Grilled Calamari - Kalamari tis Skaras

A quick and easy appetizer or main meal, grilled calamari is best when it's grilled and served immediately. Top it with plenty of fresh squeezed lemon juice and enjoy with a nice chilled glass of ouzo.

Depending on the size of your calamari, you can thread the pieces on to skewers for grilling or place them directly on to the grates. A specialty perforated pan intended for grilling smaller, more delicate items works well.

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Yield: 4 - 6 appetizer servings


  • 1 - 1 1/2 lbs. whole squid – fresh or frozen (thawed)
  • 5 tbs. olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. dried mint
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • fresh squeezed lemon for serving


In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, oregano, mint, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Add the calamari pieces and toss to coat well. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about half an hour while you heat the grill.

Grill the calamari over high heat, turning once until opaque in color, about 5 minutes. Remove from the grill and serve immediately with plenty of fresh squeezed lemon juice.
