Definition:

In Greek: κολατσιό

A kolatsio is a snack, but more than a snack. Because the traditional Greek schedule of meals doesn't generally include a hearty breakfast, and because lunch time is usually around 2-3 in the afternoon, a snack at 10 or 11 in the morning has become part of most of our lives. This is the most common time for a kolatsio. Foods include omelets, sweet and savory filled pies (pitas), doughnuts, crepes, and even souvlaki or gyro sandwiches.

Pronunciation: koh-laht-seeYOH
Also Known As:

snack

Examples:

Spanakotyropita (spinach and cheese pie) is a favorite kolatsio.
